Assistant Vice President, Public Affairs

Story Partners, a leading Washington, D.C.-based public affairs firm,  is seeking an assistant vice president to lead public affairs campaigns for clients, primarily in the energy and transportation sectors. The successful candidate will have 7-10 years of public affairs experience, with at least three years in a public relations agency.


  • Plan and execute integrated public affairs campaigns that include online and traditional media, grassroots advocacy, executive positioning, reputation management, crisis communications and thought-leadership
  • Serve as account manager or deputy account manager
  • Supervise junior staff member and interns (as needed)
  • Collaborate with team to develop compelling communication assets, including infographics, media materials, videos, websites and more.
  • Build, maintain and strengthen relationships with Beltway, trade, national, local and online media and generate strategic media placements
  • Build client relationships that lead to incremental new business opportunities
  • Participate in business development opportunities such as brainstorming and building campaign strategies, preparing new business proposals and presentations
  • Manage external vendors such as media buyers, publishers, photographers, videographers, etc.


  • Seven to ten years of public affairs experience, with at least three years in a public relations agency
  • Knowledge of and interest in energy and transportation issues
  • Excellent media contacts, strong media pitching skills, and a solid record of achievement in generating media placements
  • Strong writer with a persuasive writing portfolio
  • A passion for providing outstanding client service
  • Self-starter who works well in a fast-paced environment, with an ability to multi-task and meet tight deadlines
  • Bachelor’s Degree

Director, Digital and Social Media

Story Partners, a DC-based public affairs agency, is seeking a Director of Digital and Social Media to provide leadership to clients and staff on multi-channel digital engagement programs.  Responsibilities include community management and strategy, digital content development, influencer engagement, online media buying, social analytics and website strategy. 


  • Serve as a digital and social media strategist advising staff and clients on the development and execution of online marketing and public affairs campaigns
  • Oversee the development of innovative content strategies for posting across web, social media, blogs, mobile and email platforms
  • Ensure online strategies are integrated with overall branding, messaging, earned media and public affairs activities, and aligned with campaign goals
  • Oversee planning and execution of online advertising campaigns, including search, display, contextual and social media platforms
  • Design, measure and evaluate the methods that drive digital and social success
  • Maintain a current understanding of the latest developments, trends, and best practices in digital and social media and identify new tools and techniques to improve outcomes
  • Drive innovative and award-winning work to position the agency as a leader in digital and social media
  • Enhance and expand the agency’s digital and social capabilities and help grow the digital/social practice


  • Minimum of 5-7 years of relevant experience formulating and executing digital and social campaigns, including two to three years of relevant experience managing online media planning/buying
  • Ability to think strategically and ensure that all tactics are executed flawlessly
  • Ability to develop and manage campaign budgets
  • Ability to work with web developers and other vendors
  • Demonstrated ability to present digital strategies to clients
  • Adept at guiding and counseling clients on digital engagement strategies
  • Strong understand of the role digital plays across multiple disciplines
  • Detail oriented and well-organized with an ability to multitask and meet deadlines
  • Proven success using analytics and data to make effective decisions
