Assistant Vice President, Public Affairs

Story Partners is seeking an assistant vice president to lead public affairs campaigns for clients, primarily in the energy and transportation sectors. The successful candidate will have 7-10 years of public affairs experience, with at least three years in a public relations agency.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and execute integrated public affairs campaigns that include online and traditional media, grassroots advocacy, executive positioning, reputation management, crisis communications and thought-leadership
  • Serve as account manager or deputy account manager
  • Supervise junior staff member and interns (as needed)
  • Collaborate with team to develop compelling communication assets, including infographics, media materials, videos, websites and more.
  • Build, maintain and strengthen relationships with Beltway, trade, national, local and online media and generate strategic media placements
  • Build client relationships that lead to incremental new business opportunities
  • Participate in business development opportunities such as brainstorming and building campaign strategies, preparing new business proposals and presentations
  • Manage external vendors such as media buyers, publishers, photographers, videographers, etc.

Qualifications:

  • Seven to ten years of public affairs experience, with at least three years in a public relations agency
  • Knowledge of and interest in energy and transportation issues
  • Excellent media contacts, strong media pitching skills, and a solid record of achievement in generating media placements
  • Strong writer with a persuasive writing portfolio
  • A passion for providing outstanding client service
  • Self-starter who works well in a fast-paced environment, with an ability to multi-task and meet tight deadlines
  • Bachelor’s Degree

Director, Public Affairs

Story Partners is seeking a director of public affairs to develop and implement media and communications strategies on behalf of a diverse client base. The successful candidate will have a solid record of achievement in generating media placements, a persuasive writing portfolio, and a passion for providing outstanding client service.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with client teams to develop and execute strategic public affairs campaigns
  • Conduct media relations for agency clients on a wide range of policy issues
  • Develop and execute creative social media campaigns
  • Develop messaging and draft content for newsletters, press releases, op-eds, social media posts, websites, blogs, infographics, etc.
  • Develop and implement executive positioning and thought leadership campaigns

Qualifications:

Digital Strategist

Story Partners is seeking a Digital Strategist to manage online and social media campaigns. Qualified candidates will have a minimum of 2-3 years of experience with community management, content strategy, online advertising, and social analytics.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage digital and social media campaigns for clients across multiple platforms
  • Responsible for ongoing social community management, monitoring and reporting
  • Plan and execute online advertising and search engine marketing campaigns, including planning, buying, budgeting, and optimization
  • Develop analytic reports for social communities and paid advertising campaigns to properly measure effectiveness and make data-driven recommendations for strategy and improvements
  • Monitor social media conversations and trends to identify opportunities for clients to leverage story telling opportunities in real-time
  • Stay apprised of social trends, research and best practices to identify new opportunities and solutions for clients

Qualifications:

  • 2-3 years digital project management experience, preferably in an agency environment
  • Demonstrated experience managing social communities for brands, companies, nonprofits or issue-based organizations.
  • Proficiency with social management platforms, such as Hootsuite or Sprout
  • Proficiency in Google Adwords
  • Ability to think creatively and spot trends
  • Proven ability to learn quickly and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A passion for everything digital
  • Bachelor’s degree

Public Affairs Interns

Story Partners is seeking summer interns for late-May through mid-August. The intern program provides a substantive, hands-on experience in a fast-paced workplace.  The ideal candidate is a motivated, self-starter and creative thinker.  We encourage students with a communications background or an interest in the role of public affairs in the political process to apply. Interns should be prepared to enter a professional office and work hard every day.

Duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Drafting a wide selection of written and creative materials
  • Monitoring news coverage (traditional and digital) for client issues
  • Facilitating a variety of social media engagements and analysis
  • Building and maintaining reporter databases
  • Conducting media and issues-related research

Story Partners will arrange unique excursions for interns to further their understanding of the different aspects of public affairs in Washington, D.C.  These will include touring the U.S. Capitol, attending a congressional hearing, and touring a major news studio.
