New Chairs Elected to Lead AdvaMed/AdvaMedDx for 2017-2019 Term

Nadim Yared, president and CEO of CVRx, has been elected to serve as chairman of the AdvaMed Board, and Eric Compton, COO of Hologic, has been named chairman of the AdvaMedDx Board. Both bring extensive experience and in-depth industry knowledge in promoting the critical role of advanced medical technologies and diagnostics in achieving healthier lives and healthier economies around the world. They will each serve a two-year term from 2017-2019.

Milestones in Medtech History: the EKG

In 1903, Willem Einthoven, a Dutch physician and physiologist, developed the first electrocardiograph machine, commonly referred to as an EKG. This 1924 Noble Prize winning technology allows doctors to record heart wave patterns by capturing and measuring small changes in electrical potential as the heart contracts and relaxes. EKG machines are used to detect the presence of any damage to the heart's muscle cells or conduction system, the effects of cardiac drugs, and the function of implanted pacemakers.
